Setting up PayPal Payments

PayPal is a popular online payment platform that offers a variety of payment options for businesses and individuals. It's an ideal solution for online stores, as it allows customers to pay using a variety of methods, such as credit cards, debit cards or their PayPal account.

Activate your PayPal account

To offer PayPal on your store, here are the steps to follow:

  1. Go to the PayPal registration page, if you do not have an account yet

  2. Fill out the registration form with information about your online store, your company, and your banking information.

Once this form is completed and sent, you will have to wait for PayPal to confirm the validation of your account.

Setting up PayPal on your store

Once your account has been validated and activated, here are the steps to follow to configure PayPal on your store:

  • Go to the Configuration (cogwheel) > Payment methods section and select the PayPal payment module corresponding to the version you have chosen from their service

  • Simply log in to your PayPal account with your login details and follow the instructions.

  • Select the options you wish to activate

Your PayPal payment module is now present on the checkout tunnel of your store.

It's important to note that integration is not possible with a personal PayPal account.

You will need a PayPal merchant (Pro) account to integrate successfully. Also, by law, you must have a PayPal merchant account for any commercial activity.

Activating the PayPal Payments options on your store

With PayPal Payments, you have several payment options to offer your customers. You can activate all of them, or choose the one(s) you prefer.

PayPal card payments

You can offer your customers the option of paying directly by credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express), without having to create a PayPal account.

Please note, however, that payment by credit card will depend on your customer's country and eligibility. This type of payment will be offered to your customers in France, but may not be available to customers in other countries.

Pay later

To offer your customers more flexibility at no additional cost, you can allow them to pay in installments.

This option is enabled by default, and you can choose whether or not to display the PayPal “Pay in Installments” button on your store.

  • Display the button for installment payments (in the cart):

If this option is disabled, the installment payment option will not appear on your store; however, PayPal may still offer it to your customer through the regular PayPal checkout.

  • Display the message “Pay in 4X with PayPal" on the product page.

PayPal Express Checkout

PayPal Express Checkout improves conversion rates by reducing the number of steps required to place an order. An "Express Checkout" button appears in the order tunnel. Internet users are redirected to PayPal without having to go through the classic checkout process. This option is activated by default. You can deactivate it if you wish.

If your store's default delivery method is to a collection point (such as Mondial Relay), Express Checkout will not be compatible, as your customer will have to choose a collection point.

Alternative payment options

You can offer local payments through PayPal Payments, for example: GiroPay (Germany), iDEAL (Netherlands) and Bancontact (Belgium). These payments will only be offered to your customer if their billing country matches the payment method.

Wallets

You can enable wallets to make payments easier and faster for your customers. Google Pay and Apple Pay allow quick and secure payments, directly from a mobile device or a compatible browser.

⚠️ Watch out

After activating Apple Pay, you must register your domain name with Apple by clicking on “Register the Apple Pay domain”.

If you change your domain name, this step will need to be completed again.

☝️ Good to know

  • Remember to test and activate the payment method so that it works in your store.
