In this tutorial we are going to look at how to host a file (pdf, image, etc) and add a link to that file on a product page. This method also works on a free page, or a blog, and so on.
For this tutorial we have chosen to host the file on Google Drive but it could be done on other platforms such as Dropbox or OneDrive. The process is broadly the same. If you do not have any account with one of these platforms you will need to create one.
Step 1:
If you have a Google account, go to your Google Drive then click on My Drive in the left-hand column:
Next, click on + new, just above My Drive and select Import a file. A window will open to allow you to select, from your computer, the file (pdf, image, etc) to host and click on open. Wait until the file has been completely imported:
Next, select the file you want by clicking on it, then click on the top right on the little man with a + :
A new window will open:
Next, tick Anyone with the link and save:
Step 2: In your Wizishop administration area, let’s edit a product page (a product from a demonstration store, for example), in Products > List of products.
Go to the long description information tab. In the text editor enter, where you want it to go, the term where the link will be placed (in the example, we have chosen Technical Sheet). Highlight this term with your mouse (1) then click on the little padlock (2) in the text editor tools:
In the window that opens select the appropriate protocol. In our case it will be https://
In the URL field, paste the file sharing URL that we hosted in Step 1, then click on the Target tab and select from the scrolling menu: New window (_blank). This will enable a new window to open when you click on the link.
To finish, you will need to apply modifications to the product page:
To view the end result, go to the modified product page (containing the file to download) and click on the link that has been created:
Once the file is open, the visitor will be able to download the document by clicking on the little arrow pointing down in the top right corner:
