Google Search Console: Understand Your Store’s Performance on Google

Google Search Console is an essential tool for improving your store’s visibility on Google. It allows you to track your site’s performance in search results, understand which keywords are driving traffic, and identify any indexing issues. Using this tool effectively will help boost your organic ranking and attract more qualified visitors.

Setting Up Google Search Console for Your Store

To efficiently analyze the visibility and SEO performance of your store, begin by configuring Google Search Console. This tool provides a detailed view of how your store appears in search results: number of impressions, clicks, average position, as well as any errors or indexing issues to fix. With this setup, you will be able to fully leverage the data needed to improve your organic SEO.

Understanding the Key Sections of Google Search Console

Overview

This is the Overview page. It gives you a quick summary of your site’s health: performance in Google Search, any detected issues, and index coverage. It helps identify technical problems at a glance.

Performance

The Performance report shows how your store performs in Google Search, including:

  • Total clicks: how many times users clicked on your site from Google Search results.

  • Total impressions: how many times your site appeared in search results.

  • Average CTR (Click-through rate).

  • Average position: your site’s average ranking in search results.

You can filter data by Queries, Pages, Countries, and Devices to analyze the impact of your SEO strategy.

Indexing

  • Pages: This section tells you which pages on your store are indexed and which are not (Excluded, Error, or Not Indexed). You’ll be able to detect and fix any issues preventing Google from indexing your content.

  • Sitemaps: Submit your sitemap.xml file here to help Google better understand the structure of your store and crawl your pages efficiently.

URL Inspection

Use the URL Inspection Tool to check the indexing status of a specific URL. You’ll see whether a page is indexed, if enhancements are applied, and you can request indexing if needed.

Shopping

  • Product Snippets: View Google's suggestions for improving your product listings in rich results, such as adding missing review data or fixing errors.

  • Merchant listings: Monitor the visibility of your products on Google Shopping through your linked Google Merchant Center.

  • Merchant opportunities: View the number of approved or disapproved products in your Merchant Center and identify areas for improvement.
