Why should I optimize my website?
It will be practically impossible for you to stand out in search engine results without first optimizing your website. Numerous techniques aimed at helping search engines understand the main theme of your each of your pages can be used here:
Respect web standards
It’s important that your website complies with certain structural standards. The W3C organization has defined programming rules that allow the programming of websites to be harmonized by promoting better accessibility. The designs created by WiziShop comply with W3C recommendations. If you’ve produced your own graphic charter through a professional, remember to check that these standards have been respected.
Meta-description
Metadata is information that is found in the code of your pages. It provides details to search engines on the topics addressed on each page.
A meta-description, for example, is a short description of the content on your page. It must be clear and to the point (one to two sentences maximum). The subtlety lies in being able to form understandable sentences while inserting as many keywords as possible, meaning terms that precisely define the content of your page and that are likely to be typed into a search engine. You must therefore ensure that this description is adapted to each page of your website.
On WiziShop, a meta-description is automatically generated on each page of your store, according to the elements you have entered (title, content, keywords, etc.). You can easily customize it from the SEO tab in your product pages, in the Advanced options section of your category pages and in the
Configuration/SEO tab of your informative pages.
Page titles
The title tag of your pages is used in many places. It is positioned at the very top of the page, in the tab of your browser. It is also the first title that your potential visitors see in the results of search engines. This is therefore a very important element.
Your title should summarize the content of your page in a few words. Here it’s better to avoid making titles that are too long, and simply enter a few keywords that represent the page, followed by the name of the store.
For example:
- Contact form - Coffee Shop
- Blue porcelain coffee cups - Coffee Shop
On our solution, a title is automatically generated on each page of your store according to the elements you have entered (name of the page). You can easily customize it from the SEO tab in your product pages, in the Advanced options section of your category pages and in the Configuration/SEO tab of your informative pages.
Page URLs
The address of your pages is one of the elements taken into account in your positioning on search engines. The more logical the structure, the easier it will be for bots to analyze. For example, the address www.my-shop.com/kitchenware/blue-porcelain-coffee-cups.html has a structure that is easy to break down. The different terms separated by “-” make it possible to isolate each keyword and index it faster. It’s also important to choose your domain name carefully so that it contains the important keywords, while still being easy to remember.
A URL is automatically generated for each page of your store, based on the page name you entered. You can easily customize it from the SEO tab in your product pages, in the Advanced options section of your category pages and in the Configuration/SEO tab of your informative pages.
Internal links
Linking is the basis of a good website. It can have a significant impact on a store's SEO if it is clear and logical.
If you want to showcase a product on your homepage, for example, the link you’re going to add must refer to your product. Don’t call it “Click here to find out more”. This text provides no information to search engines. It is therefore necessary to favor links that give a precise indication of the content of the page, for example: “More information on Coffee Cups !”.
Images
A search engine can only read text. It’s therefore essential to give a title to each image you add to your store, because it is information that can be read and analyzed with the rest of the content of your page.
A very short description of what the image represents is the best option (for example: “blue porcelain coffee cup”). This title will help search engines associate your image with your content, but it will also help to make your store more accessible. A visually impaired person browsing your website using a speech synthesizer will be able to read the title of your image.
You can rename your images directly in the image manager. (See 👉 The image manager)
